Trouble shooting the Android App

Q: The text is far too large or far too small. I can't find or use the "Text Size" function to fix it.

A1: With GlyphOK running, open the "Menu". Then select "Settings" -> "Default Text Size. The text size will change back to the system default size.

A2: With GlyphOK not running, from the 'Home' screen, open the "Menu". Then select "Manage apps" or "Settings" -> "Applications" -> "Manage applications". Find and select GlyphOK then "Clear data". The text size will change back to the system default size, the language will be reset to English and all other settings will be lost (hints, colors, notification, ring tone). Method A1 is best if you aren't using the default English vocabulary.

Q: I upgraded to the latest version and now I get the message "Message not version GVRM000300".

A: The application checks incoming messages to see if their vocabulary is at the same version level as the internal vocabulary. If the versions are not the same, there could be errors in translation from the received glyph to your puny human language. In the future the application will probably offer an option to go on-line and translate the glyph using an archived vocabulary of the proper level.

In the present you need to tell the person that sent you the message to upgrade to the latest version, which will have the latest vocabulary.

Q:  I get "Language error:" when I try to change the language.

A: This can be any number of problems, but the most likely problem is that the language files weren't (or can't be) properly downloaded. If your phone can connect to "http://instrumentation.conlang.org/" (the Help Webpage), try the following.

With GlyphOK not running, from the 'Home' screen, open the "Menu". Then select "Manage apps" or "Settings" -> "Applications" -> "Manage applications". Find and select GlyphOK then "Clear data". The text size will change back to the system default size, the language will be reset to English and all other settings will be lost (hints, colors, notification, ring tone).  Then try to load your language again.

If your phone cannot connect to the website which has the vocabulary files, you will not be able to download those vocabulary files to your phone. The technical term for this is 'reality'.

Q:  I keep seeing "Basic Term Absent", "Syntax Term Absent", "No terms found", "No Basic term found" or "No Syntax term found" instead of terms.

A: This isn't an error. It just means that the current index doesn't have a valid term yet. You can help add new terms if you think you have a good term for that location.

Q:  When I try to receive a glyph I get the message "No Receivable Glyphs".

A: No one has sent you any glyphs. You need to tell all your friends about GlyphOK and get them to send messages to you. If you don't have any friends, you need to log off and go make some first.

Q: The "Solitaire" panel was dark when I opened it.
(this only seems to happen on Android versions 2.1 and 2.2)

A: Press the home key while the dark "Solitaire" panel is open, then reopen GlyphOK.

This happened because you pressed the home key while the "Ring Tone" selection dialog was open. Please stop doing that.
